How STS Scoring Works
The Sniper Team Series (STS) uses a standardized 100-point scoring model to ensure fairness and consistency across all events, regardless of match size, terrain, or difficulty. Every sanctioned match in the series awards a maximum of 100 points, allowing shooters to compare performance evenly across the entire national season.

Scoring Model Overview
At every STS match:
-
1st place team members each earn 100 points
-
All other placements earn points on a descending scale
-
Points decrease proportionally from 1st place to last place
-
Both teammates receive the same number of points from their team’s placement

This system allows different matches—big or small, beginner-friendly or extremely difficult—to contribute equally to a competitor’s national ranking.

Why a 100-Point System?
The 100-point model ensures:
-
Consistency: Every match contributes equally to the season
-
Fairness: Shooters are evaluated on relative performance, not match size
-
Clarity: Competitors can easily compare match results across the year
-
Balance: Large and small matches both matter, but neither dominates the rankings

Point Structure Example
For a match with N teams:
-
1st place = 100 points
-
Last place = 1 point (or the minimum value defined by MD/series)
-
Each placement in between is scaled proportionally

Example for a 50-team match:
Placement Points
1st - 100.0
5th - 92.0
20th - 62
35th - 32
50th - 2
(Exact scaling formula can be published separately or provided in scoring documentation if desired.)

Best 3 Scoring System
Competitors may shoot as many STS matches as they want.
However, national rankings are determined by each shooter’s:

Best 3 match scores of the season

This allows:
-
Flexibility for competitors
-
Opportunities to improve standings
-
Reduced penalty for an off-day or missed match
-
Incentives for participation across multiple events

Cup Qualification
To qualify for The Cup, shooters must:
-
Be an active STS member
-
Shoot at least 3 sanctioned STS matches
-
Rank among the top competitors based on their Best 3 scores

Qualified shooters may then choose any other STS member as their partner for The Cup.

Individual-Based Scoring
While competition occurs in teams of two, all STS rankings are individual.

This allows shooters to:
-
Change partners throughout the year
-
Earn points independently
-
Maintain rankings without being tied to a specific partner

Partnership flexibility promotes sportsmanship, development, and a more open, competitive season.

Scoring Transparency
STS publishes:
-
Full match results
-
Individual points earned
-
Season-long rankings
-
Cup eligibility lists

Match directors only need to submit final placement results — STS handles everything else.
